PARROT RESCUE CENTER OF COSTA RICA

The Parrot Rescue Center of Costa Rica is a 501(c)(3) registered organization that supports work being done in Costa Rica to protect the local parrot population. The organization spearheads country-wide efforts to protect and preserve parrot natural habitats, as well as maintain a sanctuary for parrots that have been removed from their natural settings or abandoned by their owners. Costa Rica has made it illegal to own parrots as pets, and has taken steps to enforce the country-wide ban on removing parrots from their natural habitat. This is an enormous challenge for the country of Costa Rica, because of the thriving black market for parrots. As an alternative to the black market, the Parrot Rescue Center and the Costa Rican government are promoting eco-tourism that respects the natural habitat of parrots.
